My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Turkey | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

Until college, I lived in a room with two brothers, shared everything, and had no television. From an early age creativity and a passionate curiosity about life were how I engaged the world. I was raised with the mindset that nothing comes easy - pursuing dreams takes work.
I love people, their stories, and their worlds. Taking photographs became a way to interpret the world around me and share it with others.
Travelling much at a young age, my eyes were exposed to vastly different worlds through my camera lens. In Sena, Mozambique, I was humbled working for two weeks with orphaned children afflicted AIDS. Two years later, studying abroad in Turkey I learned the value of giving back. As a part of a service project, I was blessed to spend time with the elderly of Istanbul, listening to their stories. Throughout both journeys, maintaining a blog taught me the value of self-motivation and forming productive habits.
I hope to enable others to learn to see, and not just look. An opportunity like this would allow me to continue to learn and grow as a photographer, but more importantly, as a citizen of our globe, sharing with others the intricacies of this great dance that we call life.
