Petra- Place of Stone

Jordan | Friday, July 5, 2013 | 5 photos

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Yet every beholder views through a lens: perspective. This lens is subject to a time and place, culture. Coming from multiple cultures I understand the temptation to lay frames next to each other. While the beautiful views do not fit in one frame the panorama shots do not do justice. I have struggled to fit my multiple perspectives on the world into one frame and the result is depth.
The world and its inhabitants are fascinating, and everywhere there is some beauty to be found. Finding it requires skill; enabling the rest of the world to see it even more so. I often miss what is beautiful and shoot instead what easily focuses in my lens. I noticed this when I returned from Petra to discover that I had a picture of a boy offering me all the pictures I had taken. His eye’s captured more of the desert than all the photos that had turned to dead rock in my camera.
If beauty is in the eye of the beholder I aim to teach the beholders how to see beauty. The depth perception I have developed has often made spoken words insufficient, so I turned to images. I hope to teach others to see beauty beyond their current frame.
