Hampi, the land before time.

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Monday, November 7, 2011 | 5 photos

Hampi is like something out of a fairytale, the most untouched and intensely spiritual place you could ever imagine. I stumbled across this south India temple town when I was travelling India last year, and it is without a doubt one of the most fascinating places I have ever been. The main town sits in a dip of some huge barren hills, with miles off beautiful temples surrounding it. This series of images portrays some of the beautiful characters I meet whilst staying there. The town is completely out of touch with the rest of the world. Children run around bare foot, dogs and cows sleep huddled together at night on the streets. Infants and old people spend their lives sitting in temples praying and selling tea. It’s as if this town doesn’t know the rest of the world exists and as a result it has been left hundreds of years behind.

I have a huge passion for both photography and travel and my biggest aspiration is to work as a travel photographer. I have saved up as much as I can over the last few years in order to travel to some truly beautiful places, and take photographs of the people and landscapes I come across.
I know that this scholarship would be an amazing and hugely beneficial opportunity for me, I feel I have so much more to learn about travel and photography and I know that this would be an amazing opportunity for me to learn some skill I would never be able to learn any other way and that it would be chance for me to experience what it is like to live the dream.

I have enough experience of travel and photographing in intense situations to be an easy student, but I am also amateur enough to be keen and willing to learn as much as I possibly can from this fantastic experience.
