My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Jamaica | Saturday, November 5, 2011 | 5 photos
These photographs were taken in the northern countryside of Jamaica in 2009. This was my second trip to Jamaica but a first to this area. We were invited, by some Jamaican locals, to play tennis on some grass courts. When told we would be playing at the country club I think we might have envisioned a little something different than what we got. While driving in the back of the pick up truck a few miles away from where we were staying on the beach, we passed by abandoned shacks, wildlife, open fields and cows...lots of cows. I am not a tennis player so I was taking it all in. Where we were. What we were doing. What we were experiencing. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I couldn't not document my surroundings.
Growing up my father had a subscription to National Geographic magazine and I would flip through every month, mezmorized by the beauty of the images I was seeing. Later on in life I got my first camera and haven't stopped looking through the view finder since. This is not only a dream of mine to have photographs on National Geographic website and to have the opportunity to visit the most amazingly beautiful country but also to work along side an amazing photographer, Jason Edwards.
If given this opportunity of a lifetime, I would be forever greatful for this experience.
