To Get to the Other Side

My name is Katie Whitburn and I am 18 years old. I live in the Sunshine Coast, Australia. Photography hasn’t been in my life for long but it is, and will always be my number one passion. In the transition between University courses I began to really explore photography and experiment with the camera. I can say that I have only been around photography for about a year and I have much to learn.
For a while I have always dreamt about taking photos of the world and animals. During this past year this dream has become so strong that I decided I would have to make it my life goal. I have always been told to do whatever makes you happy, and I know that I am happiest when I have a camera in my hands ready to capture a beautiful image of an ephemeral moment in time.
Yes, I am young, but I believe that this scholarship will open up many opportunities for me. One would be to achieving my goal, to work in my dream profession. Having this experience would really give me a massive leg up the professional world of photography. It will teach me new technical and practical skills that would help me develop into a successful photographer. This would also give me a different perspective in the world, which I believe is one of the most important qualities to have in this profession. I hope this scholarship will help me bring out the best in my self which will be reflected in my photography.
About these Photos:
This train station has so many aesthetic qualities. The lonely station moulded really well in to emotion. There is a feel of emptiness, fear and exhaustion and can be executed and empathised with a person reflecting these emotions. My series follows a story of an exhausted, scared and isolated girl, who is forgotten and simply gives up on herself.
