Well, as is my typical MO, I am 36 hours away from leaving for Ecuador and I don't have a single thing packed. Not only that, but my "beloved" backpack that has been all over with me disappeared after a skit with my middle school Spanish students..I'm sure none of mine are responsible:) So I've yet to buy another one..denial I guess.
I have been debating the necessity of malaria pills as I'm going fairly deep into the jungle, but I've opted against them..so "here's to hoping"!Tsunki, my Shuar guide in the Amazon, tells me I "shouldn't" need them.
Well I'm off to brave our first winter storm aftermath and get myself somewhat prepared. I'm told I need to find a net to sleep in while in the jungle. I also need a pair of rubber boots. I thought the ones with heels and pink flowers at Filene's basement would be a bit flashy. But there is a "jungle store" in Macas that sells them for $3. I think I'll take that option.
After two stops in Medellin and Bogota Colombia, I should be in Quito by early evening on Saturday.
Here's my very loose itinerary:
Day 1 : Arrival in Quito
Day 2: Quito
Day 3: Flight to Macas/Amazon jungle/Shuar tribe
Day 4: Jungle
Day 5: Jungle
Day 6: Jungle
Day 7: Banos- pretty town with thermal baths, mountain biking and hiking
Day 8: Banos _ home
More to come..let the adventure begin!
