The Children's Memorial standing in memory of all the children who lost their lives as a result of the atomic bombing. Originally inspired by Sadako Sasaki who was exposed to the radiation from the bomb and developed leukaemia. Her aim was to fold 1000 paper cranes, to have her wish granted, for world peace. Unfortunately she lost her battle before she could finish her cranes, her friends finished them for her. To this day anyone can offer their own paper crane in memory of those children that died. During my visit I left my own origami crane as tribute.

The A Bomb dome, the most recognisable Hiroshima landmark, preserved as a memorial to those that lost their lives as a result of the nuclear bomb. Public opinion was divided on whether the building should have been demolished along with the rest of the city or preserved as a reminder of the devastation. Ultimately the decision was taken to preserve the skeletal remains and build the Peace Park around it.

The Peace Flame another memorial to those that lost their lives as a result of the atomic bomb. It has a further symbolic purpose. The flame has burned continuously since it was lit in 1964. And will remain lit until all nuclear bombs have been destroyed.
