My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Saturday, October 16, 2010 | 5 photos

Behind the camera's lens is where I always wanted to be. Six years ago circumstances had me put the camera aside. Not forgotten but also not in hand. It wasn't untill last year when I borrowed my sisters digital SLR and went to see Alaska. This was the first time shooting with a digital SLR camera. I knew where I should be and found myself back behind the lens. I was hooked again, and I loved it.

On my journey I noticed the vastness of land and water, mainly the water. It's reflection, transparency, fluidity and strength. I let myself enjoy the moments as I photographed each scene.

I received an e-mail today about this scholarship and realized I only had a few hours before the deadline. I am an amateur photographer! My life plays out in my pictures. Although I have attempted a written journal, the photographs tell a better story.

I have chosen images that show the calmness, reflection and strength of water. From the Vancouver shore to the Misty Fjord National Monument to the Mendenhall Glacier. As I captured each image I always looked forward to the next.

This is the first time I have entered my photographs into a contest. I would like nothing more than on opportunity to be on assignment with a National Geographic Photographer. I look forward to the challenge.
