So - of interest - The median and average distances in Scotland were much shorter than in Scandinavia - this is partly because we took some time out loitering with no intent on the Isle of Eigg. And also because there were many days when we couldn't ride any further because of ferry timetabling. Also, I was too busy eating Scottish fudge and drinking scotch to be bothered with cycling.
Interestingly, although we had bigger days of climbing in Scandi, Scotland was hillier overall, with a higher average number of metres climbed per kilometre cycled. Scotland was quite relentless in terms of rolling hills, while Scandi had some extremely flat bits (denmark!)
My max average heartrate in Scotland was higher because we have started (intermittently!) doing some interval sessions while cycling. The higher heart rate is therefore my body struggling not to have a hernia as I push through the pain with panniers on.
