Maps

I have attached a rough map of the first part of our Scotland leg. Riding over the sea will be difficult, but if a certain gentleman in history is reputed to have walkjed on water, then we can bloody-well ride.

It appears therefore that carrying 25-odd kilos of weight does slow one down a little bit. As does stopping to look at a map quite often (Kate: "what does the street sign say? Ghent? I thought we were supposed to be in the Netherlands" Matt: "Must be another typo on my map.")

Garmin does overestimate the number of calories consumed, however assuming that it is in the correct vicinity, I am allowed to have drunk around 370 beers overthe course of the loop. Assuming that the food I consume accounts for the calories for the rest of my daily activities, I am therefore allowed to drink about 10 cans a day, or eat 10 Daim bars. Better cut down a little I guess.

As for the maximum heartrate being listed as 251 - I can only guess that this may have been when I saw a swarm of midges approaching. Or otherwise one of the times I was cycling behind Kate.

And... a word on presents:

I realised yesterday that the rollmat I am sleeping on was given to me by my parents for my 18th, the stove I am using was a 21st present, and the panniers that everything is stuffed into were given as a 30th birthday present. My parents give good presents. Thanks ma and da. Better start thinking about the 40th.
