I am a reader, a writer and a photographer. I use these interests to find beauty in places unexpected, especially in the faces of strangers going about their daily lives. Every photograph has fueled an insatiable desire to travel, write about and capture beauty around the world.
My passion is street photography--it is ever-changing, always unexpected and full of overlooked beauty just waiting to be pointed out.
I was never meant to stay in America. At 17 I went to Poland for a year. With cheap digital camera in hand, I photographed every ray of light and glimpse of expression that flashed across a person's face throughout six countries in eastern Europe. When I returned to the US, I did a year course on traditional photography before flying off to Australia. I currently live in Melbourne and take photos every day. I have been trying to get them displayed in cafes and small galleries to jump-start a career.
I should be chosen because I feel I am at the top of a mountain, waiting to dive down the other side, and all I need is a push. I have the natural skills, unwavering motivation and fertile mind for learning, yet lack the resources. This scholarship can give me that opportunity.
