Where my feet will tread

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Jose Saramago said that "the end of one trip is just the beginning of another". It's how I like to think about life. An eternal cycle where the end is just the beginning. A journey that walks nearby time. Time that ends and resumes. A period with an space for a new paragraph.

So are journeys. Arrivals and departures, encounters and farewells. Meetings with other cultures, people, life. And, in between, time that runs and sometimes drags. Time that heals and sometimes devastates.

I was born in Brazil, I live in Australia and I'm a citizen of the world. This is my picture, it's how I like to reveal myself.

And traveling around the world, stepping my feet in all grounds, I mix and differentiate me through space and time. And this is why I like to shoot, to perpetuate the history of the world and my life: wherever I went, what I saw, what I experienced. Smiles I memorized, tears that I'll never wipe away but, knowing the history of the places I visited, I learn the reasons of so many sorrows and also joys.

How many small paradises there is out there to explore? How many miracles of nature my eyes will capture? Packing up, departing, traveling, tripping, returning. One journey begins, another just ended. And, amid all this, photographs would never let me lie: between time and space, the journey, people, landscape, nature, life.

After all, the end of a trip is just the beginning of another. And the other is about to start right now.
