My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Australia | Friday, July 5, 2013 | flickr photos

There were two significant factors that began my fascination and curiosity with photography as a child. The first was my fathers collection of black and white photographs that he had taken of his family and of the place he grew up in the mountains of Lebanon. He was the first person in the village to have a camera and these photographs he brought with him to Australia in 1952. I learnt about Lebanon and family through the stories behind each of these photographs.
The second was a neighbour who gave me a collection of National Geographic from the 60's and 70's. This opened up a world of other people and places I never knew existed.
I would forever be going through my fathers photographs and flicking through the magazines and had a knowing of the impact and power of the image and how it recorded and documented time and from that moment, I knew I wanted to travel and tell stories through photographs.

This scholarship would fulfill that knowing and being mentored with a world class photographer would make this a reality.
