My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Australia | Monday, November 7, 2011 | 5 photos

I am a budding photographer. I have been studying photography for the last 3 or 4 years in the evenings and have been interested in travel photography for many years. I teach Kindergarten children during the day.The children inspire me and remind me every day of the beauty in the world and how grateful we should be of what surrounds us in our immediate environment.

I am constantly observing what is around me. Four out of five of the images were found within five minutes walk of my home in Sydney on my way home from work. I live in the city, so I think it is wonderful that you still have the opportunity to find these gorgeous animals in nature. I love stumbling upon wildlife and have a keen appreciation of the environment and the magnificent animals that inhabit it. I am also passionate in educating children about the great need to take care of the amazing animals around us and their habitats, so that future generations can enjoy them.

These images were taken near a swamp near my apartment. I walk by it every day and keep my 'eyes peeled' for animals to present themselves. I feel I have been lucky to capture images of these animals in their natural environment, as many people would walk by and never notice them. This is a privilege...

I would love the opportunity to go to Africa and to be mentored by Jason Edwards. I feel it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I have so much more to learn and would be so grateful for the chance to work along side a professional photographer in the field.
