My Scholarship entry - Faces of a forgotten war
Bosnia & Herzegovina | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos
Bosnia is a place often forgotten by the western world, showing the true potential of what the evil of humankind can do. Having recently experienced a recent attempt at genocide, the wounds are still fresh (literally. Most people walking through the streets will show you their scars). The resilient smiles and determination to be happy was something beautiful to document and a lesson we can all learn from.
Photography is my reality. Since my grandfather first gave me a camera as a 7 year old to document his neighbours, I have carried a camera with me everywhere I go ever since and I'm too deep down the rabbit hole to go back. It is the way I perceive reality.
When I'm alone taking photos, it often feels as if I'm touching the greatest truth that I can create. My camera is my vehicle to find that place of truth and touch a piece of eternity in an incredibly transient world. There are so many incredible humans we can learn from on this planet and photography, now widely accessible is a perfect vehicle to share their stories.
I have recently returned from a photography mission around Iceland where I hitchhiked around the country, documenting the eclectic characters I met doing this and the ridiculous places they took me. The pursuit of the image has become my path to life and it is a lifestyle I am in love with.
This scholarship represents a fascinating journey I would love to be part of and really obliterate all of my comfort zones in a pure state of presence in the moment at the task at hand. Hopefully it could help me making a living from what I already live to do.
