WORLDWIDE | Sunday, 27 March 2011 | Views [215] | Scholarship Entry

Hi, my name is Kara, I’m from Solo Indonesia. My big adventure happened about 2 years ago, when I and my friends visit “Kota Gedhe” known as a ancient, culture, and a silver area.
Wait at Balapan Train Stasion, with my friend. I thought that she was alone, but she is coming with her boyfriend. We arrive in Jogja, at Tugu Train Station. We walk along side of Malioboro Street. There is a traditional vehicle named “andong” pulled by horse. You wouldn’t feel so bore for sightseeing. There’s a lot of interactive souvenir like t-shirt “wayang”, short, and of course Batik. We stop at the bus transit Malioboro, the bus name is Trans Jogja. And the destination is “Kota Gedhe”. Yihaaaa.
We have appointment with two friends, meet at the traditional market. We don’t even know how the distance is. We walk a head, trough the street, with the same scenery “a silver shop”. We arrive at the traditional market, and we meet our two friends. Guest what, they are with their boyfriend, feels like I’m caught in a triple date. Okay, more people more fun. We look around this area just brought a blind map given by our lecture. We don’t know where is the north? where is the direction? But that’s fine, make us curious to discover more, talking and interact with stranger. that’s more interesting. Than just follow the map.
First destination, “Masjid Agung Kota Gedhe” or “The Great Mosque of Kota Gedhe” near traditional market. The impression about this place is there’s a brick combination over the hedge, that make me feel like, wow, am I in Bali right now?. That’s amazing the brick compotition and the gate just like “pure” in Bali. That’s beautiful collaboration between Islamic culture and traditional culture.
Next “Omah UGM” or “House of UGM”. Named of “Omah UGM” because this traditional house is bought by UGM (University of Gajah Mada). This traditional house is known as “Joglo” all the material is natural resourses. From the stone to made a foundation, a wood for the structure, and clay for the roof. The unique of “joglo” is not using nail and pegs for the additional construction, but using a key log of wood system.
Late afternoon, we’re move to “Between Two Gate”, this place is very unique “Between Two Gate” means a row of “joglo” which is made a line. The area which is meet is “pringitan” like a transitition room. In other not for being complicated. Each the the community omit the pringitan. so the “pringitan” is disappear, turn into a narrow street looks so beautiful, with the ancient of “joglo”, the ornament, the old wood, an ancient ceramics. What a nice situation feel the peace.
After we look around “Between Two Gate” we decide to go home. We are so tired. But we are so happy. Discover the blind map, talking to stranger, and I’m caught in a triple date. So fun. ?
