Nothing is “gratis” without a reason

One eve of one great festival… Me and my friend Mane decided to escape from madness of the Cadiz carnival and go to calm and bright like wine Jerez-de-la-Frontera. We visited the exhibition of flamenco dresses on the Tio Pepe grapery.
We were walking around main hall, glancing at our-rent-cost dresses and drinking three-euro wine when we saw the “Make-up” stand with mirrors, chairs, all make-up stuff… A charming girl looking like a top-model called us and offered “gratis” make-up.
“Gratis”, or free, was always like a magic spell, especially for us, poor students. Although there was a small queue, it didn’t scare us. I should have recalled that I had never liked the way Spanish young girls put their make-up – too much concealer and powder and cheek colors, they never knew when enough was enough. But I didn’t recall. I was looking forward to free make-up as a perfect transformation into a beautiful princess. I imagined myself taking photo for my facebook account…
- Your turn, - they said. My friend was already sitting in front of the mirror while one girl was applying something very dark on her face for “night make-up”.
- Make-up for day or night? – make-up artist asked me.
- Day. – I squeaked. I was a coward. At the time, I noticed that there was a quite small variety of concealer tones. It seemed suspicious.
- Close your eyes. – And I closed. I tried to relax and enjoy. When I opened my eyes…
In the mirror I saw a very strange girl. Her barely visible eyes in contrast with Angelina Jolie lips didn't let me identify her ethnic origin. The difference between tones of her face and her neck reminded me about IT-guys with their T-shirt-tan, but skin was ideal with no pimple on it! “Who am I?” – I asked a philosophical question and turned to my friend Mane painted like a Moroccan prostitute.
- Am I pretty? – She asked.
- Mmm….What should I say?
- Something cheering.
- We don’t need any masks for Cadiz carnival.
