My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Wednesday, September 1, 2010 | flickr photos

The photographs I have chosen were taken during a trek, Annapurna and Upper Mustang, I did with a mate, Ben, in late 2006. The trek was 24 days, 22 of them walking. The first two photo's are on the Annapurna circuit, the first, dusk about a week into the trek, the second, two days into the walk. The third photo was taken in a town towards the end of the trek, as was the last photo. The fourth photo was taken in Lo-Mantang.
I feel I should be chosen for the scholarship because...
Well, I am an experienced traveller; I have traveled extensively through Africa, India, Nepal and Australia, a little in Asia, North America and Europe. I have a passion for getting to the edges of civilization, taking random alleys and getting lost in strange cities. I have a passion for adventure, and I will take huge risks if the payoff is a chance at genuine adventure. Being an experienced traveller, I also have the patience to sit by the side of a road for a week, or two, waiting for a ride somewhere, and the intelligence to respect others culture and customs.
I am an very good artist (my best paintings are at http://squaremethod.deviantart.com), and I have an excellent eye for composition. I am learning to be a great photographer, it is something I am passionate about and am throughly enjoying the challenge.
Travel photography/photojournalism is a path I am working to building a career from (I had two career's halted due to a workplace injury). I am essentially a nomad, most happy and comfortable when all I have is on my back, and home is where-ever I happen to be. Photography, as a career, fits this lifestyle perfectly.
Julian.
