Hello! My name is Julia. I’m a food writer based in Montreal, Quebec and founder of julia chews the fat, a site for home cooks seeking straight-forward food made from scratch. The way I approach writing is similar to the way I approach food: with honesty, warmth and openness (a little bit of humour is always useful too, especially when things go awry and you burn the cake). I try to provide a space for people to think about the food in their day-to-day – meals and ingredients that are un-contrived and approachable. As a proponent of the Slow Food movement, I believe that food has the potential to nurture communities and promote relationships that protect culinary traditions, as well as the land and people that sustain us. I owe all this to my grandmother, who taught me the importance of enjoying and appreciating what I eat. My travels abroad have opened my eyes and my heart to the beliefs, customs and attitudes of others, changing the way I approach life - and, of course, food!
