Something New

A change of plans is usually really annoying, so who would've thought that a simple cancellation would lead to an adventure?
Certainly not my boyfriend Edward or myself. We were on a V-Line train halfway to Geelong when my nan rang me. "Milly's sick, Juz," she said. "We're having the party next weekend instead."
My chest tightened. I was really looking forward to the party! But Edward smiled at me. "Let's just hang out in Geelong," he suggested. "We're already on our way, and I used to live there, it's a great place."
His eyes were flashing in the sun and his smile was warm. Why not, I thought, it'll be nice to spend the day just with Edward. I reached for his hand. "Sounds like a plan," I replied and flicked his nose. He captured my hand and tickled me.
I was sure this was going to be a nice, easy day. I've never been so right and so wrong about something in my whole life.
We headed for a small circular park after leaving the station. "This is the way," Edward said, pulling me along.
"The way to where?" I asked, jogging to keep up.
"Secret," he grinned at me and squeezed my hand.
The park was tiny, but this only made it more fascinating. We followed one particularly narrow path to a gate and left the park. Busy roads buzzing with people and all kind of vehicles faced us.
Edward glanced to our right. "I think it's this way," he declared and began walking.
It wasn't long before we were lost. Edward was so confused. "I swear the shops should be on this street!"
I giggled. "You have no idea where we are, do you?"
Edward frowned. "I guess not," he admitted.
I laughed. "Come on, let's go this way."
"But what if that's the wrong way?"
"Well, it can't hurt, can it?" I asked. Honestly, I was kind of excited about being lost. This is the first time I'd gotten lost without any family with me, maybe something exciting would happen!
Edward and I came across a small ice cream shop at the end of the street. We each got a cone with a flavour we'd never heard of before. Why not try something new on a day that seemed to be all about doing new things?
We kept trying new things as we followed the street. I've never tried so many different foods before!
At the end of the street we saw the train station up ahead.
"We've come a full circle!" I said, delighted. I hadn't felt like we were travelling in a circle, that was incredible!
"I'll never forget this day, let's do this again?" I said. "Just go somewhere we don't know, I want to have another adventure!"
