My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

My photographs tell the story of the journey to a small village I visited in Fiji. I spent a day in the isolated village learning about local culture, lifestyle and food. These photographs capture the beauty of the simplicity of life in the village. This was my first and only (to date) overseas experience and has given me a love for documenting my travels. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management through Southern Cross University, Lismore, Australia, and have studied electives in both digital and film photography in order to gain the skills I need to enter into the field of wildlife and documentary photography. Nature is my love, and capturing its beauty has been a big part of my life ever since I learnt how to pick up a pencil. I have spent countless hours in the outdoors sketching landscapes and bugs, animals and flowers, anything that amazed me. With my passion for photography and environmental science, and the techniques I have learnt through my university studies, this experience is the one I have been waiting for in which I can combine my loves of art, nature and culture. This opportunity would provide me with the step needed to enter the field of wildlife and documentary photography which I am striving towards. I believe photography plays an important role in environmental and conservation awareness as well as in the art world. My goal, both professionally and recreationally, is to capture images which can be used scientifically and commercially to emphasise the beauty and importance of our environment and to educate society of current environmental and conservational issues. This will be an important and unforgettable experience for me, and my skills and motivation to learn will help to capture valuable and inspiring images of Bhutan's culture and wildlife.
