My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Although proudly South African, I am most content on the road, meeting different people from an array of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
With a major in Social Anthropology, I have an invested interest in what we can learn from places and personalities outside of our comfort zone. Travel is wasted on hotels and Michelin star restaurants. It is fulfilling only when you listen to the stories of the locals and stray off even the beaten path.
At University I partook in travel writing modules and with whatever free time and spare money I can muster, I blog and practice getting my photographs to a level that meets my own high expectations. The rat race is all that has held me from my art and all that has intrinsically changed is the medium. I have lived and worked in both Japan and Hong Kong. Instead of saving I invested my money in travelling extensively around South East Asia, albeit on a shoestring budget and what seemed to be an even more limited period of time.
I can offer the travel world a new perspective. All I need is that elusive opportunity.
