Montreal After Midnight

After spending the last eight years of my life in Albuquerque, I am always ready for an adventure. When one goes to Montreal on a Friday night looking for an adventure, I suggest Crescent Street. Despite the polar winter temperatures, something is always going down. There’s something for everyone and my friend Nia and I found ourselves club hopping.
Travelling teaches us a lot and we can find out so much about ourselves by the adventures we have. For example, I learned that I’m a clubbing feminist. It is really unnerving to walk into a swell of humanity and have strangers grab you. At times I was even stranger-sandwiched trying to escape bouncing between two dudes playing the world’s worst game of pinball.
How did I end up here?
Being a “good girl” in a place as bland as Albuquerque can lead a person to make questionable life choices in the search for a good story to tell. I’ve always been terrified of growing old without really living first.
There’s no rest for the wicked, especially on a Friday night. We ended up at Sir Winston Churchill Pub and I had one of the best nights in my life. So we start dancing with the entire bar watching us. It was really uncomfortable because all these people were looking.
We kept dancing and I started planning the pack of lies I was going tell my friends back home. “No one was dancing and we started a rager. We had the time of our lives…”
And that’s exactly what happened! Swarms of people just started dancing around us. I was able to make a fool of myself in front of couple really attractive Finnish guys. I decided to bury my sorrows on the dance floor and I was really getting in to the gospel of Lil Jon. Before I knew it some guy was dry humping me. Then, I saw the hot Fins. I didn’t want him to see me like this. I didn’t want me to see me like this. So I ran to a girl’s best sanctuary: the bathroom. Oddly enough, one of the night’s moments best happened outside the bathroom. This girl came up to me and said:
“Finally! I’ve been meaning to talk to you all night! You must lead the most fabulous life!”
I couldn’t believe that; I was so flattered. And too soon the lights were back on and the party was over. We left the bar and I had to rush to catch my 5:30 plane. I have never felt cooler: I went from the club straight to the plane, glitter eye shadow and all. And there’s nothing like waking up in Albuquerque before noon to bring you back to reality.
