Montreal's Food Odyssey

My Scholarship entry - Through Local Eyes

WORLDWIDE | Monday, 15 October 2012 | Views [135] | Scholarship Entry

My name is Josiane, I’m a workshop facilitator\ freelance videographer working in the media development sector aiming to be a professional filmmaker. Etienne and I made our video about how food is the best way to experience a culture because from our Montrealer’s perspective the reality is that waiting in line outside at 3 o clock in the morning under minus 35 degrees to eat a poutine at La Banquise will get you much closer to what Montreal is all about than taking a picture of yourself in front of the Olympic stadium.I believe that the World Nomad bursary would be for both Etienne and I an opportunity to have our work seen by people from around the globe and to bring a more in depth perspective of Rio, something else than the 10 days long partying. As far as my filmmaking experience, in the past 4 years I had the chance to work in developing countries producing documentaries with youth in Ecuador, a video for a local NGO in Malawi, filming personal projects and working for community television. My life dream: directing movies. my goal? Creating social changes and improving people’s lives. People say that I’m an utopian; I say if man walked on the moon,I have to keep on dreaming.
