My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

My name is Joshua Brown. I love photography because it is a part of history and an integral part of art and communication. I want to be a travel photography because I believe I will bring light and understanding. I want to include philanthropic deeds and volunteerism in my travels abroad. I, someday, wish to be a travel photographer for National Geographic. To be able to learn about other cultures and make a difference would be my underlying motives. I want to develop my level of photography experience as well as become well-traveled. I believe it is important to understand other cultures. I have been a photographer for a year. I could see myself far down the line becoming well-traveled and becoming a teacher or being a photographer. For both professions, one must be open-minded and compassionate. I picked Hawaii as my travel journey for many reasons. The culture of Hawaii is becoming more and more assimilated into American culture much like Native American culture. Although my pictures convey a timeline of the day in Hawaii, I would have rather expressed through photographs the rich and diverse culture of Hawaii before it became Americanized.
