My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I believe in a balanced and open approach to life. When I work, I work hard, when I rest, I rest. I actually studied film production, but I realized that photography is where my heart is. I am an avid hiker and rock climber, an open water scuba diver, and I have sailed for many years. Hiking is something I am very passionate about, as I consider it a form of meditation, all I have to worry about is the journey, getting food and water, and setting up camp before sundown.

To me this scholarship is the perfect way to learn the requisite skills and the discipline required to be a travel photographer before I can even think of venturing into the professional world. Ideally I would like to come away from this with a changed perspective on both my life and my work, and hopefully a few good friends and colleagues. I think the first place I would try and work in is my native country, Ireland. I have always wanted the ability to document my own culture with fresh eyes, and this is something I can only achieve by working in other cultures first. And I think if I am capable of that, then there's no telling what my next step may be, or who I might meet.
