My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

It’s not the camera I most admire; rather it is the people and places being observed with it. And at the Corcoran College of Art & Design I am a senior enrolled in the photo-journalism B.F.A. program. As a photo-journalist, my personal goal is to provide a greater understanding for the world by contextualizing the life we live in. The objective of my photography is to represent the outstanding relationships people have with their environment.
Some photographs can be extraordinarily more important than others and the power behind these photographs makes me wonder where it comes from? So far I am beginning to realize the dialogue that the viewer has with any given photograph is unique. The B.F.A. program at the Corcoran emphasizes exploration of the photo-narrative and challenges us to make new kinds of compositions, creating a unique dialogue with each new picture.
The camera is a significant tool in my life and by remaining dedicated to it I’ve learned many new things about the world and realized new amazing traits about myself. A travel scholarship mentored by a National Geographic photographer is an extraordinary opportunity. I look forward to the direction that a professional photographer can offer and wish to examine both the process and procedure during new assignments.
Bhutan possesses an abundant natural beauty and the Phobjikha Valley will serve as a wonderful new inspiration. I look forward to daily journals about my own experience and I know that this trip will help prepare me for the photographic career I want. Realizing that this life would be little without the context which shapes it, I wish to deliver new material to the greater community that will help them shape a more fantastic world.
