I returned to Mozambique after 34 years, when my family fled to Portugal in haste at the start of civil war. I didn't know what to find in the city where I grew up to be 9 years old, and the memories I had were few. We reached the town by a road that I immediately recognized, for its buildings. Shortly thereafter, unexpectedly, came to me memories that have I didn't know I had. Suddenly I recognized the town where I grew up, went to the house where I lived, to the school where I studied, I visited family who I did not see for so long. Only one thing had changed, the scale of things, everything was much bigger than my childhood memory had registered.
The photos that I present were taken in Mozambique, during a road trip that took me to all its provinces. To me they mean a return to a happy childhood, to the endless plains of Africa, the beaches of fine white sand, to a cultural mix that is still so alive.
I like to shoot mostly people and wildlife scenes. I am an anthropologist / archaeologist and I'm interested in people / tribes and their relationship with the environment, particularly with animals.
I'm just a photographylover, with the ambition of becoming a good photographer. To have the opportunity of learning from someone like Jason Edwards, in Africa and with the quality assurance of National Geographic Magazine would be a dream come true.
