My name is Jorge Marcet and I am from Guayaquil, Ecuador.
I have always been captivated by Photography, because it helps me capture glimpses of the present around me. The patience and excitement of foreseeing and waiting for the perfect shot, narrating, composing and then pressing the shutter to produce a picture you love is what draws me to it. It is what I try to convey through my pictures.
I have never had any formal photography instruction, other than a B&W Beginner's course in college and my own. Once, I started selling my pictures in a farmer's market. That is the true extent of my experience. Being an electromagnetic compatibility engineer in a big corporation, life was becoming dormant. My wife and I packed our bags and left for one year sabbatical.
I have always loved to travel, it broadens the mind and immerses you in a totally different reality than the one you are used to. Especially, places where you can make a change. Different cultures, beliefs and experiences all come together when you travel.
I think I should be chosen for this scholarship, because as part of these realities, you realize there are people in these beautiful communities that could be doing much better. I have always been a quick learner and a hard worker and believe that through my pictures I can create awareness around these communities for people to realize they can make a difference and to promote entrepreneurial activities within the community and out.
Ecuador is a third world country, where small communities in the Andes and along the Amazon struggle day by day to survive. I have always wanted to create a philanthropic endeavor in Ecuador to promote awareness in rural communities. I know that if given the opportunity to further my photographic abilities through this scholarship, I can reach this goal.
