My Scholarship entry - People of China

China | Saturday, November 15, 2014 | 5 photos

I am a filmmaker at heart. I started making videos and small films about 4 years ago and really just picked up photography as a hobby along the way but have tried to improve my skills in it ever since. A friend, who is also doing photography, actually advised me to apply and submit some of my photos.

Although I am used to shooting Landscape when it comes to photos I find that, if I am shooting someone, they are always the most intriguing part of the frame. I shot a lot of interviews and testimonial videos where everything is really about the individual story of that person in front of my lens at that moment. A lot of the time the purest and rawest form of that individuality is displayed when the person I am filming doesn't realize that they are being filmed. They don't put a mask on.
I try to do the same when I am taking photos. To capture a moment that is them. Where they don't have a mask on. To be able to see something real on their face.
I would love the opportunity to go to the Amazon and capture life there, especially if I would get the chance to encounter and capture indigenous people. The wildlife and Landscape would be a reward in and of itself.
