My name is Jonathan Doornenbal. At 14 years of age I started shooting video. Realising the vast potential of videography, I decided to become a drop-out and start my pursuit. I've been freelancing for a year now. With no formal education in video I worked twice as hard, learning through online courses and tutorials while performing as a fulltime freelancer at the same time. Now I am entering a new phase in which I would like to be coached by a professional.
In the beginning I took every job my hands could lay a hold on: weddings, corporate video's, documentaries, etc. From being a jack of all traits, I am narrowing down towards a more specific field of interest: capturing people's personal stories and passions. A weekly release of a ‘1 minute story’ - my side project for some time now - is a way of materialising this fascination. (http://1minutestory.tv)
Besides shooting video I love travelling most. Adventure and curiosity lured me into hitchhiking through Europe at the age of 16 already. One year later, starting in Los Angeles, USA, I hitchhiked all the way to New Jersey (I couldn't keep myself from making a travel video of course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjRrcOE4R4g)
I want to win this competition because it fits me in every aspect. I can see both of my biggest passions combined: a next stepping stone in becoming the expert travelling documentary filmmaker I always dreamt of.
