My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Australia | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | flickr photos
To take a photo is to hold your breath, all your senses converge to capture fleeting reality. As your finger pushes down on the shutter release, in that precise moment, mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.
My name is John Savage and I am 23-year-old from Australia who loves to travel. The one thing I can't leave home without is my DLSR. Whether its taking shots around the city or snapping photos of the locals in Addis Ababa, I am always driving my fiancé crazy with my constant desire to stop and take a snap.
But it's more then a simple point and click for me, it's about capturing a moment. It's about scoping out the perfect spot, revisiting it several times a day to find that precise time when light and shadow combine to create a signal perfect moment. It's about capturing a candid shot of a child laughing or finding the perfect way to encapsulate a person's personality and soul in an image.
Winning this competition will be a dream come true, a life changing experience. To be mentored by Jason Edwards would be a great honor and an incredible way for me to learn more about photography and maybe even help me turn my hobby into a career.
