My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Cuba | Saturday, January 5, 2013 | 5 photos

As a native New Yorker, I've always possessed an insatiable curiosity to learn about people and places that are different than what I know and then embrace those differences to seek a common bond. This is the driving force behind my desire to be a travel photographer. After living abroad in France and Italy and working in business/tech for several years, life has brought me back full circle toward my art and I have found a synthesis within myself through my documentary photography that feels organic. It enables me to engage with different societies, capture the human spirit, and ultimately share those experiences for a greater good. It also leverages my background/education in both art and technology. Simply put, I love it. The photos I've chosen are from a recent trip to Cuba, a nation I'd dreamt of photographing for many years. I recently produced an exhibition in lower Manhattan entitled 'Cuban Layers' in efforts to promote and share these unique images and it turned out to be a great success. I should be chosen because this would be a tremendous opportunity for me to continue to learn, contribute and thrive in this exciting field.
Thank you for your consideration,
