John (& Sarah's) journeys.

Gainsville...chicken farming capital of Georgia

Well i made it! The flight was pretty uneventful (but I guess that is a good thing when you are 40,000 feet up!) Apart from being sat next to the stereotypical American who clearly had "gone large" on every McDonalds visit and was now clearly a product of her own ordering habit - luckily there was a free seat between us so we avoided that uncomfortable experience when the person next to you spills over into your seat (I am British and therefore do not want any bodily contact with a stranger). I am now in Gainesville - the chicken farming capital of Georgia(!!). Lucky me eh?, they are having a chicken cooking festival so am hoping to get some free fried chicken from the Merial stand - a company I used to work for. Am still getting over  the jet lag - woke up at about five this morning feeling like I had overslept! Think I will need a nap this afternoon. Will head off to the trail tomorrow i think. Weather is pretty hot though a bit thundery. Went to a hunting shop this morning and enquired about a gun (only half joking) but apparently I need to be resident in the US... so will have to fight off the bears and hillbillies with cunning and ingenuity. Am starting to adjust to American culture and environment, though still cross every road like a startled pheasant! Also the light switches over here are upside down.... quite a small thing but one which annoys and confuses me every time.

That's all for now folks.

Have a great trip John and watch out for those big bears and large overfed American ladies (the bears are the VERY hairy ones). I'll read your travel journals with interest. Re the light switches: Have you tried standing on your head and switching the lights on/off with your feet? They are the right way up then.

Take care.
Brian.
