Gangetic Glory

India | Monday, July 1, 2013 | 5 photos

I use photography as a medium to document; it’s how I collect memories. It has taught me to see the world around in all its multiplicity, diversity and inter-connectedness, and has helped me to become more observant. When I go around shooting with my camera, I enter an almost meditative state with no outside thoughts bothering me; I am entirely focused on the present. I observe intently and notice beauty that's otherwise overlooked because of mundane everyday thoughts. This sensation, this 'power of now', was most felt when I was walking around the ghats of Rishikesh and Haridwar - considered to be among the holiest cities in India, with the river Ganges passing through them. Millions of pilgrims arrive at these two cities every year to quench their spiritual needs.

It is my on-going mission to highlight, through photography, the ‘bigger picture’ of life – to use it as a tool to represent the positivity that’s all around; the positivity that fails to get much attention thanks to the myopic way the media manages to influence public thought. An opportunity to work with Jason Edwards would be a learning experience of a lifetime and would fillip my advancement as a photographer.
