My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I grew up in Oman, Muscat. My family moved from the Highlands in Scotland to Oman when I was 6 and we remained there for 8 years.
I feel so lucky to of had the privilege of living in such a beautiful country and would love the opportunity to return. I understand the culture of Oman and the Middle-East very well and I still speak a small amount of Arabic. I am by no means a professional photographer but I have a good eye and great photographs!
I am also a confident and experienced traveler. After returning home from the Middle East I had itchy feet straight away. At 19 I drove my van down to the Sahara where I got my first taste for photography. The satisfying feeling of the decisive moment, but also the task of trying to capture your environment and its atmosphere in one frame. Mostly and very simply a new found love for esthetics.
I started out using film and its with film I have taken my best shots. I was not able to take my heavy old cameras, with the trekking I was doing I could not afford the weight. I had to settle for my digital 'point and shoot' However a good photographer should never blame his tool and I enjoyed the challenge of making the most out of what I had!
