Changing perceptions

After a hearty meal of local delicacies and a long nap, we were at the beach again. The previous day we had loads of fun riding the ATV (all-terrain vehicle) because at low tide on this particular beach in Alibaug the waters recede for about a kilo meter. Plus as it was a weekday the beach was relatively empty. There was a lot of space to speed and go crazy riding in all random directions.
Today we were at the beach at high tide to enjoy some water sports. We started with the Jet Ski. I loved the sound of that engine. The adrenalin rush was awesome. I felt like I was queen and the sea was my subject. The sound of water splashing as the Jet Ski zoomed through the waves was music to my ears.
Next was a banana boat ride. Once we reached about a kilo meter into the sea we were asked to let go of our hands as part of the experience. The very next moment I found myself underwater. Above me I could see the sun’s golden rays shining through the water. Around me was just blue green water. Beneath I could feel my legs desperately trying to push my body upwards. All of a sudden my brain just switched off. I stopped struggling. I felt at home with the sea. Like I belonged there and not to the bustling city life I had known all my life. Seconds later the life jacket brought me to the surface.
I felt peace like I had never known before. Happiness no raise or bonus could buy. I could feel my heart pound just because it was excited to be alive and well. I must have been underwater for a few seconds but it felt like ages. Some may call it a near death experience, but I think it brought me closer to life. It made me look at life in a way I never imagined.
