A Fremantle Story

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 4 photos

As soon as I saw the design brief for this scholarship I immediately thought of Fremantle because of historic beauty and character. The town just 20 minutes south west of Perth was the central port for the main city back in the day, so it is very well know for is old architecture. My aim was to tell the story of old Fremantle through photographing the old buildings and landscape, from the restored original town hall to the old and broken wooden pier to the main transportation line in and out of the town to the main street filled with history now bustling with life.

Myself I am a diehard student photographer. I am currently trying to study it at university but the courses and units keep on getting dropped or changed making it difficult for me to peruse a career in the industry as most employers want people that have had experience through education in the subject. So instead I just take photos of whatever I can where ever I can. I am a big fan of getting up close with nature and the landscape and really engaging with it and its sometimes hidden characteristics. This travel photography scholarship would be the perfect opportunity for me as it would give me experience in a favoured expertise and potentially a stepping stone into the industry which I am constantly looking for. I have always wanted to travel internationally to photograph unique and exotic places and their culture and to get up close with the people and nature.
