Normandy: France
we set off friday night to meet our tour group at victoria station. Firstly couldn't find the bus- then blamed each other for not reading map properly. We would be so bad at The Amaing Race. There were 19 people on our tour, and 17 of them were Aussie's. Quite funny. Caught the overnight ferry from portsmouth. Was a huge boat with resturaunts, cinema etc so didn't get sea sick or anything. However didn't get much sleep trying to sleep in our reclining chairs. we arrived sat morn and our bus took us to Bayeux where we saw the Bayeux tapestry and a huge Medieval cathedral. really nice town. Following this were the D Day beaches of Normandy and the American war museum. Then lunch at a little beach side town called Aramanche. Yummy baguettes and nutella crepes. mmmm.
This is where it all went wrong. Bus broke down on the side of the road 10 miles from where we were staying that night. we were stranded on the side of the road for three hours and our tour manager and Bus driver didn't speak french. We eventually got another bus to where we were staying that night. Went out with the group for dinner. Was good to have a chat with all the other Aussie's and swap stories. sunday we still didn't have our bus because it was getting fixed. Hence we caught the public bus to Enfleur, got lost in little streets, ate baguettes, purchased french wine and pastries. We then got (another) bus to the ferry, 6 hours on that, and then yet another bus to london. Had the bus of been fixed would have caught the shorter ferry from Calais. We didn't get home till 1am monday morning. We were very tired monday at work. Not too happy with the tour company. We almost spent half the weekend waiting around, being delayed etc. Next time we will definately organise our travels ourselves. Was a weekend highlighted with lovely sights, but also frustration.
We we
xoxo
