Spirit houses, like this one, can be seen outside of most homes. Sacrifices of flowers, incense, candles, food, and water are given to the spirit houses daily in return for protection for the residence. The spirit houses are always placed on the Northeast corner of the house where the shadow of the house will never hit it.
