My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

India | Monday, November 7, 2011 | 5 photos

A systems engineer by profession, I used to work for the Indian IT consulting industry. I am also a technology enthusiast and spend time playing around with all things electronic that I can lay hands on. My tryst with photography began when I got my first camera a couple of years back.

The experience was overwhelming. The sheer pleasure of working at my own pace in bringing out something beautiful definitely goes beyond words. My perception becomes another man’s reality, and through just a few frames, one tends to convey a subtle yet profound message.

I believe Photography is an individual’s way to portray reality and more, an expression of what he or she believes in; an art that takes about a second and yet invigorates everything around. The patience one needs and the impromptu nature of a shot is what I love most about photography – you get it when you least expect it and the tougher it becomes to getting a moment right, the harder you push yourself. And that drives my passion for more.

And it is for this reason I decided to give myself a year just to experience photography better. I have decided to go wherever time can take me, capture moments and memories and bring them back to a wider audience. While photography comes in with its set of rules, I personally feel one should go out into the open and explore it first-hand. An individual would then keenly observe and give that he perceives a whole new dimension. Through the submission of these photographs, I have done just the same.

The travel scholarship from National Geographic Channel & WorldNomads.com and the opportunity of being mentored by a passionate photographer would definitely be an opportunity and a richer experience I look forward to.
