Wednesday 9th September
Madrid, Spain
Breakfast was in the atrium and a feast to behold – a variety of Moroccan delicacies and fluffy scrambled eggs. Mohammad and the magic carpet was waiting for us on check out and took us to the airport, even staying right through until we cleared customs (wanted to make sure made it out of the country).
The flight to Madrid was fairly painless, although we princesses are not used to flying cattle class. As it was only a 75 minute flight we chose not to be too precious.
Madrid welcomed us with sunny weather and a quick pass through customs into a waiting taxi (love on board luggage).
Our hotel is on the Puerto del Sol, right in the absolute heart of the city, like staying on Times Square. Now, we've been on the road for about 9 weeks and have been been in a variety of accommodation. Last night we slept in a Californian king bed in the number one hotel in Casablanca. Tonight the bed creaks (not much more than a pull out sofa bed really) and we're in a room where it's so small that you have to go outside to change your mind. The Hostal del Sol makes Motel 6 look like the Hilton! But it's all part of the tapestry of travel and so we'll live with it and consider it character-building!
Tonight we headed into boy town (around the corner) and then had dinner at a local restaurant. A fun night in Madrid, cheap and definitely cheerful.
