Literally... I was born here!
Having my mother being Thai and my father being Australian I have been immersed in culture since the day I was born. I was born in northern Thailand in 1993 and moved over to Australia when I was four years old.
With the contrast of cultures, appreciation for it all did come with age. Mum and dad encouraged my sister and me to travel to Thailand all the time. We have stayed closed with our family over there and kept up with the Thailand language.
Every time we travel over there, time makes no difference. I find myself easily adapting straight back into the culture. The only difficult part of this journey is having family on opposite sides of the world; goodbyes are the worst thing in this world. I guess it’s hard because I become so attached to them in the short amount of time spent with them and the separation of not knowing when I will see next.
Thai way of life is one of the most spectacular things I have ever experienced. Everything revolves around food and people. Time means nothing. The people over there live with the bare essentials but are some of the most generous people you will ever come across.
If you ever have time in your travels, make an effort to the non-touristy attractions of Thailand.
