Carinthia

It is said that every kid have a dream, a fantasy, that if it were accomplished, they would be the happiest person on earth. It is hard to catch a dream so tough, so it would never sneak away. Mine was really simple, there was only one thing able to draw a smile on my face, and keeps it even days after.
Unfortunately, it was elusive, and I did not have the chance to enjoy it every year in my town, instead I had to travel at least two hundred kilometer to find it. But a few years ago, without even being aware about it, I was about to live in a place where I would be surrounded by my childhood dream as much as I would have loved.

There is a small area, in the middle of the Austrian Alps, where I would reach the happiest level I had ever been on my life: Carinthia. This small region is located in south Austria, next to Italy and Slovenia, Klagenfurt is the capital, but is far away from my dream. Seventy kilometer, there is a small town called Spittal/Drau, not really well-known outside Austria, but If you love outdoor sports, this will be your paradise: mountains as far as you can see, from 2000m the smallest, to the 3798 meters of Austria´s highest peak.

Hiking, canoying, paragliding, swimming on a 1000-meters-above-sea-level lake, mountain biking, and so to every sport your mind can imagine that outdoor to be done. You will find the perfect atmosphere around you, not so hard as a big city, but also not so rural as a small village.

But let´s not change the subject, Carinthia is special, you will discover, not only if you share my childhood dream, but also if you like nature. My imagination flew to an element that only cames half of the year, and when it came in my hometown, it was like a gift, like if that day was special, and that was my unique reward, just for me.
In Carinthia, in Winter, it was found around the four cardinal points, and get along with it almost every day: fifteen minutes away from my home I could enjoy it down the hillsides, but in case i wanted to try it different I had another thirty-two ski resorts to delight myself in.
Winter is my favourite season of the year, and when cold season arrives to the mountains, it always comes with a frozen gift: the snow. Rare in my spanish hometown every year, here I had it everywhere, everytime, even in sommer, in the southest Glacier in Europa, the Mölltaler Gletscher; but when sun and snow live together happily, more than one thousand kilometers await you to be skied.
