Women of India - Scholarship Entry

My Scholarship entry - Women of India: a portrait of colour and life

India | Monday, November 17, 2014 | 5 photos

In drought-ridden desert, a sea of purple sparked my curiosity. I knelt down to capture the tiny flowers sprouting from the cracked earth. Through the lens I saw colour & contrast. But what I discovered was a unique story of hope & survival. I witnessed beauty born from dust. In that instant I was hooked. My camera has since been a constant companion. Ready & waiting to shoot the very moment when all elements perfectly combine to create magic. Photography gives me purpose; a compulsive desire to step out of my comfort zone & explore new people & places. To unearth more purple flowers & learn & apply technique to capture their true essence. But just as photography exposes the world to you, it also exposes you to the world. Sending your art out into the ether is terrifying. I admire those with the courage to pursue it professionally. I desire to learn how to marry natural ability with professional skill, to satisfy an intense obligation to share exquisite stories with a wide audience. To partner with one at the top of their game is a privilege I will grasp with both hands & wring out every last drop of knowledge & insight, to build the confidence I need to move forward as an artist.
