My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Everything happens for a reason. You may not see those reasons at that point in time but it all becomes clear eventually. I believe that there are a handful of people in this world that have something special within them, a given talent, a gift and even fewer follow this desire to make it their career.

I have an Adv. Dip. of Commercial Photography but after two years the main thing I learned was that anyone can create a stunning photograph as long as your competent in photoshop. The other thing I learnt was that there is a undying need in me to take images.

It wasn’t till I came across this scholarship two days ago I realised that I have stumbled upon this for a reason. That my heart lies in Travel Photography. This is something that can’t be taught within four walls. I want to be amongst it. I can’t fathom how invaluable the opportunity to be mentored by Jason would be and to be immersed in the culture and animals of Africa is incredible. To learn from a professional and to hone my skills in this field would be life changing and the foot in the door that I know someday I will get.

I’m bored with where I am in my life and photography right now. Posed portraits are not for me! I want more out of my photography. I want to feel like I can make a contribution with my images. Images which leave an impact on the viewer and invoke that intense feeling an image can create.

Even though I may not have a winning submission, I know is that it has relighted a Travel Photography fire in me. Everything happens for a reason and I’ll have to wait and see what that is.
