Through the eyes of a traveling naturalist

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Bolivia | Tuesday, June 11, 2013 | 5 photos

I am 29 and proud to be from a very special part of the world, the South Island of New Zealand. I have a strong passion for nature, so despite being raised on a sheep farm, I have chosen to dedicate my life to the preservation of the natural word. I work in the field of wildlife conservation, which is very rewarding but also sometimes very depressing. The "office" is usually out in some very remote and extremely beautiful places working with some of the world's most endangered species, not only here in New Zealand, but also in the magical Galapagos Islands. When I am not at work, I am an artist, dabbling in a few different mediums and always trying to give a sense of appreciation for nature through my work. Although I dabble with photography (mainly with plants and wildlife), I still consider myself to be quite a novice. People who see my photography tell me that I should be a National Geographic Photographer, and that's why this competition has caught my attention as a good way to get noticed. It would be a great honour to spend time in Greenland, photographing in a new landscape, with new plants, animals and of course people while at the same time, learning from the best!
