My Scholarship entry - Understanding a Culture through Food

WORLDWIDE | Thursday, 29 March 2012 | Views [148] | Scholarship Entry

As I have just coming back from Vietnam and I think the local food there has very distinctive characters which represent their culture very well. The hot weather there produces many tropical products that I have never seen in China. But the most common and important food there is “pho”, a kind of rice noodle, served with beef, raw, half done or well done, as you wish. And they always eat it with a basket of vegetable, they are very good flavoring, making the soup more tasty. The soup is light and fresh, very healthy, maybe that’s why I didn’t see any fat people in Vietnam. Local people are very slender, especially the girls, wearing their traditional clothes “aodai”, gentle and graceful. The main Vietnam dishes are all light, fresh, tasty and healthy, and their culture is like their food, local people are gentle, modest and courteous.
