Every last piece of the sacrifices is cut up and divided equally into evenly sized piles, placed neatly in rows on palm leaves laid out on the ground. These are then allocated out to each of the families in the area. A careful watch is kept on this by a village elder who holds a list of names checked off as family members come to collect their share placed in black carrier bags. I was told that last year there had been more, donated by a wealthy individual.

The children that first hid behind the bushes are now growing accustomed to the sights they are witnessing, showing more of an interest in the process, talking with one another, and even laughing and joking. In this image the young boy is mimicking the position of the previously hanging goat that is now laying out stretched on the ground. Adding a comical twist, the superman t-shirt he is wearing also gives an impression of him stretching out to fly.

Here one woman wraps the meat in palm leaves ready for cooking into a celebratory feast. Sat in the shade of a beruga (traditional resting place), I was invited to share tea and sweet rice treats with this family, many of whom had travelled from afar to be with their family for the day, whilst others were absent having proudly secured jobs in Mecca.
