Passport & Plate - Lemon Meringue Cake

Canada | Friday, February 13, 2015 | 4 photos

Growing up every Sunday we would visit my Grandmas for breakfast. Food and fond memories go hand in hand. Each time we would walk into her old farm house our noses would be filled with the sweet smell of homemade cakes and pastries. These recipes standing the test of time originating from her childhood. My grandmother and her mother would make these treats in Antwerp Belgium where they owned a cafe prior to WWII. I now got to experience this magic every Sunday. My Grandmothers two specialty desserts were Belgian Cake and Lemon Meringue Pie. I remember eating so much I later would wear sweatpants to breakfast. As the years grew on so did my love of food and cooking. This past year I wanted to make something special for my Grandmas 80th birthday and what better way then to create an homage to my Grandmas great creations by combining the two together to make what she later called "heaven on a fork"
